You can’t live on Redstone and not know George, the Redstone Express bus driver.

He’s been driving buses for the past 40 years and UVM was lucky enough to get him on board four years ago. He’s known as the guy who’s always smiling and asking how you’re doing. When asked about his favorite part of the job, he replied, “Intermingling with kids, seeing how they’re doing, watching them [interact].” And his least favorite? “Stupid people”, he responded with a chuckle.

He elaborated on his frustration with “stupid people” by saying that it cracks him up every time students still get on the bus expecting to go to Trinity or Athletic campus. It’s almost halfway through second semester, and some students haven’t realized that the Redstone Express still only goes to Redstone. We asked him if he had any funny stories for us, but he said he had too many to share.

George is one of the most compassionate people you’ll meet at UVM. He waits for classes to get out of the music building so that the students don’t miss the bus. If he sees someone walking down South Prospect, he stops and asks if they want a ride, and he will always wait for you if you’re walking up the path towards the bus.

George is a genuine person, not to mention hysterically funny. His shouts about “IT’S THIRSTY THURDSAY!” and “HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!” will put you in a good mood whether it’s 8:15(pm or am) or 4:00.

George loves his job and the students really love him. Next time you hop on the Redstone Express, Feel free to wave or start up a conversation with George. He’s always more than happy to make a new friend.
