How to Romanticize Studying

Studying for an exam or simply doing homework can feel very mundane. It’s the same routine every day, and I often dread it like most people I know. Nothing about it is exciting or very interesting. It’s just schoolwork.

I’ve recently learned this past semester that there’s a way to make this mandatory task a little more fun. It may sound simple, but it goes a long way. Here are my must-try three ways to romanticize studying or doing homework to give you a little pep in your step.

Try a new coffee shop every week and order a fun flavored latte while you work

I especially love this activity during the fall and winter because the specialty lattes are the most creative. I don’t know about you, but I live for coffee, so trying new places is always something I enjoy, so why not do your work there while you’re at it!

Do work at your town’s public library with a friend

I’ve only started doing this this year, and it’s been really helpful for me. My roommate and I got memberships to our local public library and try to go at least once a week. It’s nice to study in a new environment that isn’t just our campus library (which is always packed).

Find or make a good study playlist

I’m someone who always needs to have music going while I do anything. I love to listen to instrumental jazz while I study and then chill pop while I do homework. It somehow makes me more focused.

Hi! My name is Isabel Petrou. I'm a senior studying Public Communication at The University of Vermont. I'm originally from Portsmouth, Rhode Island. I love reading, going to the beach, listening to music, and trying fun iced lattes from new cafés. I love being a part of Her Campus because of its mission to empower women's voices. I really enjoy being able to give advice to college students navigating this big life transition.
