Hot & Healthy: Feel Hot and Motivated in the Colder Months

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

Alright, time to admit it: winter is here. The wind is whipping and the air is dry and cold. It’s time to layer up and hibernate. Unless you are of the breed that thrives in the cold, winter in Burlington is not pleasant. That being said, it is still important to maintain a healthy diet and work out schedule! These winter months are long and brutal, and it is too easy to stay inside and overeat. So, below are my tips on how to keep motivated to workout during the season.

Go to Fitness Classes:

The gym offers a variety of classes of varying degree, from relaxation yoga to Total Body Conditioning. These classes are at all hours of the day, so there is no excuse to miss a class. And they happen in the warmth of the gym! If that isn’t enough to motivate you, sign up for PEAC 027, which requires you to take 28 classes over the course of the semester to get a credit.

Layer Up:

Regardless of what you are doing, layering up is a must! If you are walking to the gym or going for a run outside, keeping as much skin covered as possible will keep you warm and cozy. Techwick fabric would help if you are exercising outside, because it wicks the moisture away to keep you warm and dry.

Stay Healthy:

I don’t know about you, but I have found it to drink less water in the winter months than in the summer. However, the dry winter air parches skin and lips, so be sure to drink up and eat healthily!
