Hikes Around Burlington

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

Now that fall is here and the temperature has finally cooled down, it is now the perfect weather to do all of your favorite fall activities: apple picking, corn mazes, carving pumpkins, and of course….going hiking. If you’re itching to go explore the great outdoors and are unsure of the closest hiking trails, we have compiled a list of trails that are in Burlington and are no more than a 25 minute walk from campus!

1. Centennial Woods

Centennial Woods is on the Burlington/South Burlington line. It is one of UVM’s nine natural areas and is used frequently by the UVM Environmental Program. It has a beautiful trail to walk on if you want to take a casual stroll through the woods.

2. East Woods

East Woods is also frequently used by the UVM Environmental Program. The woods feature a one mile walking trail that is somewhat hilly. Dogs are allowed on the trail as long as they are kept on a leash.

3. Salmon Hole

Salmon Hole, a 6 acre park, is mostly famous for its cliff jumping, but also has a gorgeous river and of course, an amazing hiking trail.

4. Intervale Trail

Roughly 2 miles long, the Intervale Trail goes along the Winooski River and through a farmland cooperative which grows organic crops on 350 acres and promotes sustainable farming practices. This trail is definitely worth checking out.
