I don’t think I have been this excited for Christmas since I was a kid, but I am so excited. Typically, I don’t believe in listening to Christmas music, watching Christmas movies, or decorating until after Thanksgiving. But this year, I’ve been doing all three since October. However, I am still holding space for Thanksgiving. So, here is what I’ve been watching to get through the last half of the semester and into the holiday spirit.Â
The Holiday
What more should I say other than Jude Law and a cottage in the English countryside? Any Nancy Meyers movie is perfect for the holidays.
Fantastic Mr. Fox
This is THE Thanksgiving movie in my opinion. The colors, the theme of community, the adventure, and big feast scene. It is all so perfectly Thanksgiving-y.Â
It’s a Wonderful Life
While this is technically a Christmas movie, I watch this multiple times a year. The message is timeless, and the comfort it gives is perfect for any season.Â
The Holdovers
Also technically a Christmas movie, but it is so cozy and perfect. It captures just how hard, but also beautiful the holidays can be.Â
You’ve Got Mail
This is a modern retelling of one of my other favorite movies, The Shop Around the Corner. The older I get the more qualms I have with this movie, but in my eyes Nora Ephron can do no wrong.Â
Knives Out
This movie has incredible fall vibes, and kind of feels like what it can feel like to be home with your family for the holidays.Â
Serendipity
Once again, technically a Christmas movie but should be watched all year. This movie is perfect, no notes. A great reminder at the end of the year that everything will fall into place just as it is supposed to.Â
On my never before seen watchlist this year are:
Home for the Holidays
Stuck in Love
Mistress America
Dan in Real Life
There is nothing like a cozy, festive movie to get you through the cold, grey days leading up to the holidays.Â
