Fall Activities Around UVM

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

As Fall rolls in, there are lots of new options for things to do around campus. Whether what you choose is indoor or outdoor, active or no, it’ll be a blast. There are so many options in Vermont that you’ll have a hard time deciding what you want to do first. Check uvmbored.com for options of things to do on campus, but having a car or taking the time to figure out the bus schedules is well worth some thought too.

1.           Intramural sports

Getting a team together for intramural sports is a bunch of fun. Without the competition of varsity or even club sports at UVM, the intramural program is a ton of fun (and you can win a free shirt). A full list of options can be found here.

2.           Hiking

Hiking in Vermont in the fall is an awesome way to get those perfect Instagram pictures to show everyone how cool your new school is. The leaves will be turning soon and with the myriad of colors, you can’t be blamed for taking a moment to snap a cute picture. Hiking to the top of Camel’s Hump or Snake Mountain is a great way to get the perfect angle. It’s also a great way to get out and get some fresh air.

3.           Fall sporting events

There are lots of options to go and see games, if that’s more your speed. Watching soccer or field hockey games can be an awesome way to get out of your room and into some school spirit!

4.           Swim at the lake

Before it’s too late, may I suggest a dip in the lake? Lake Champlain will be cooling down as the year does, so going swimming would be a fun way to enjoy the last of that summer heat. Take a bag lunch and make it a picnic, or check out some new place downtown for a meal.

5.           Run

UVM has the awesome option of running for those who are so-inclined. There are trails that circle around from UVM to the waterfront and back around, and there are always the sidewalks. The time for getting those last few outdoor runs in is now, because pretty soon the snow will hit.

6.           Fallfest

Fallfest is a really cool event that the UVM Program Board puts on. Held in the Patrick Gym, there are musical artists that come and perform for the students and whomever wants to go. Tickets are $10 for UVM students and more for other students and adults. The artists this year are Ying Tang Twins, Nitty Scott MC and Vee Tha Rula. Whether or not you know the artists, it’s bound to be a great time.

7.           Gym pass

While some gyms on campus are free to use, the group fitness classes are not. They are $65 a semester or $130 for the year, but that gets you access to take any of the group fitness classes that you want. The options include spinning, yoga, Pilates but don’t limit yourself to those. There are so many options, if you can swing it, the classes are well worth the money.

8.           Farmer’s Market

The Burlington Farmer’s Market will only be going for a few more weeks, so get the goods before they’re gone! The market has food vendors, flowers, art, and so much more. Walk around for a bit and take in the classic Vermont market. Held in City Hall Park, the market is on Saturday’s from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.
