A Playlist to Start Summer off Right

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

The snow has melted, flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping, and we finally had our first 80 degree weekend in Burlington. Summer is here– and it calls for a new playlist. As far back as my freshman year of highschool, I have made playlists to go along with the seasons. It’s like a hobby, my ritual to keep track of passing time. Music holds so much memory. Do you ever hear the first few beats of a song that reminds you so strongly of a certain time in your life? Making seasonal playlists is my favorite way to keep a virtual time capsule. With that: here are 25 great songs that are in my current rotation.

  1. Say It – Maggie Rogers
  2. Far – SZA
  3. See You Again – Tyler, The Creator ft. Kali Uchis
  4. Chamber of Reflection – Mac DeMarco
  5. 4EVER – Clairo
  6. Dark Red – Steve Lacy
  7. Video Games – Lana Del Rey
  8. Normal Girl – SZA
  9. Small Worlds – Mac Miller
  10. White Ferrari – Frank Ocean
  11. Yes I’m Changing – Tame Impala
  12. Life – The Walters
  13. Smokin Out The Window – Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic
  14. Better Than – Lake Street Dive
  15. Softly – Clairo
  16. Illicit Affairs – Taylor Swift
  17. Shades of Cool – Lana Del Rey
  18. Hurts Me Too – Faye Webster
  19. I Know It’s Over – The Smiths
  20. Pretty Boy – The Neighborhood
  21. Tangerine – Led Zeppelin
  22. North – Clairo
  23. Littlest Things – Lily Allen
  24. Back to Black – Amy Winehouse
  25. Peace – Taylor Swift

The beauty of a seasonal playlist is that there doesn’t need to be any cohesion– the fact that it is seasonal is the cohesion. So go ahead and add every song that you are randomly obsessed with. They work together because they are your songs. And if you already make seasonal playlists, I urge you to go back and listen to your playlists from last year or the year before. Doing this is a true time travel experience– it takes you right back to feelings and memories from years past.

Happy listening, and happy summer :)
