I know I’m not alone when I say I love listening to podcasts. When I’m driving, painting my nails, cleaning my room, scrolling through Instagram, playing with my cat, or doing just about anything else, I always have something playing in the background. I’ve listened to many different types of podcasts, from self-help and comedy, to mystery and conspiracy. Lately, as we get closer and closer to Halloween, I’ve been looking for some spookier podcasts to get in the spirit. I’ve compiled a list of podcasts that I’ve been listening to and I’m excited to share them with the people who, like me, enjoy a good scare every now and then.  Proceed with caution!

1. Mile Higher Podcast

Hosted by Youtuber Kendall Rae and her husband Josh, this podcast dives deep into different all-consuming topics every Monday.  Mile Higher covers a bit of everything– current events, true crime, unsolved mysteries, serial killers, conspiracy theories, unexplained phenomena, the supernatural, and more.  This is personally my favorite podcast; the duo is in-depth with their delivery and keeps their audience engaged through every hour and a half episode they release. This is the podcast I would recommend to everyone, all year round.

2. Lights Out Podcast

Somewhat of a spin-off from Mile Higher, Josh created his own podcast about all things, as the name suggests, dark. This podcast covers events like alien abductions, paranormal hauntings, cults, possessions…essentially, if you like horror movies, you’d like this podcast. Josh tells these stories in a relaxed, low voice that makes them surprisingly comfortable to listen to. I would consider this podcast perfect for Halloween time– it’s eerie and will definitely leave the listener thinking about what they just heard.

3. Crime Junkie

This is one of the most famous podcasts, hosted by Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat. I like this podcast because while Ashley details specifics from each case the ladies cover, Brit asks the questions that the audience is likely thinking. Also, because the ladies cover so many missing person cases, it raises a lot of awareness for the individuals in these cases and has actually aided in finding them. The show is split into 9 different categories, so you can pick and choose what kind of story you’re in the mental space to listen to. Each story they share is extremely interesting. This podcast is straight, to the point, and about real-life events, so their message is an important one.

4. Supernatural Podcast

Also hosted by Ashley Flowers, this podcast showcases supernatural events that are unexplainable and fun to listen to.  Categories of the show include “Disappeared”, referring to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, “Mystical”, referring to the Silent Twins, “Alien”, “The Unknown”…and many more.  I don’t want to give away too much, because this is definitely a podcast to check out. It’s mostly lighthearted and interesting, and Ashley has an enthusiasm about her that’s unmatched by other podcasters.

5. The NoSleep Podcast

Hosted by David Cummings and Michael DelGaudio, this podcast is different from the others I’ve mentioned because the stories told are fiction.  The episodes are stories written by different people, and Cummings and DelGaudio tell these stories as though they’re the main characters. The stories are spooky, captivating, and relieving once you remember they’re all fake! Definitely a good listen, especially during the month of October.

These podcasts, admittedly, are not for everyone.  Some of these episodes can be hard to listen to, so be sure you know what you can handle and don’t listen to things that could potentially trigger you. I’m just sharing these options for the people who want to get a little scared, especially this month!

Stay safe, and happy October!

Xoxo,

Cati

Hey, I'm Cati (cah-tee, not Katie)! I'm entering my senior year at the University of Vermont studying Public Communications with a concentration in Community Media and Journalism. I've always enjoyed writing, especially when it's about topics relevant to a college-aged demographic. I love giving advice, finding new music, and practicing wellness within mind and body. When I have a moment to relax, I'm usually cuddling with my kitten, Maui, reading my horoscope (I'm a Sagittarius), meditating, or taking a bath- of course, with a favorite Lush Bath Bomb. Over the years I've found a few passions that I can't wait to share with you!
