Okay, so we’re not eating skincare. And breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But, like breakfast, skincare is just what I need to get my day going. Something I had always shoved away as superficial and unnecessary ended up becoming one of the most reliable parts of my day as I made my way back to Grounds. Here are three random ways that skincare can benefit your everyday life.
1) Giving you an actual routine
It’s nice to feel organized, like I have some part of my life together. At this point in my life where I am running around from different classes and clubs and meetings, a skincare routine is a time for me to take a break. I take ten to twenty minutes every morning and night to immerse myself in a routine that I’ve created, and I do not worry about anything other than washing my face. Having some sort of consistency these days has been soothing to the soul in all of this chaos.
2) A Form of healthcare
It’s important for me to make sure that the actual well-being of my skin isn’t sacrificed for the marketing goal of making it glow on the outside but not from within. Skincare can run deeper than a simple cosmetic process; it helps us protect the top barrier of our skin. Prioritize making yourself and your skin feel good rather than look good; the former will naturally compliment the latter.Â
3) self-care
Skincare gets me to stand in front of a mirror and say without words, “I am worth being taken care of.” That takes quite a bit of effort, and it’s not something I can do easily every day. From trying on cool new products to wearing pretty face masks, skincare ended up being one of the many ways that I as a twenty-something year old in this era of turmoil made sure I was okay. Make sure that it’s something that you and no one else but you are content with. Make sure that it’s something that can make you happy.
A formal skincare routine is not a priority, nor is it the only way to keep oneself healthy. But there is no shame or superficiality in caring about oneself and wanting to make oneself feel good. I promise from the bottom of my heart that it is worth it at the end of the day.
