Over the summer, I dove into the world of podcasts. I had been interested in the platform for quite a while, but had no idea where to start. It can be intimidating at first because there are so many shows to choose from. Over the past six months, I have been listening to various different shows in order to find which ones I like best. If you want to start listening to podcasts, and don’t know where to start, check out my three favorite podcasts.
- Morbid: A True Crime Podcast
-
Like most people, I enjoy a good crime story. The problem is I am a huge scaredy cat. So, I wanted to find a podcast that talked about creepy topics, but kept a lighter tone. Morbid is the perfect combination of the two. Hosts Alaina Urquhart and Ashleigh Kelley do an amazing job covering some of the biggest true crime stories, all while keeping the tone lighter with their bubbly personalities. They are both in-depth researchers, never leaving a stone unturned. Episodes range in length, so I can always find a good episode no matter what I am doing. Whether you like popular or obscure true crime stories, or even spooky supernatural stories, Morbid has something for you.
- This Past Weekend
-
This Past Weekend is hosted by comedian Theo Von, and is perfect if you are looking for some laughter. There are two types of episodes: solo shows where Von takes calls from listeners and gives advice, and episodes where he interviews a guest. You can’t go wrong with either one! Von is a great interviewer because he is able to mix comedy and seriousness perfectly. Even though the show is focused on comedy, Von is great at giving advice and is not afraid to get vulnerable with his audience. One listener stated that “no one can so seamlessly blend sincerity, vulnerability, generosity, and comedy into one.”
- Lateral Damage
-
Just a couple weeks ago, I stumbled across Lateral Damage, a podcast that is a part of the SI True Crime podcast series. The show investigates the suspicious murder of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair. McNair was supposedly murdered by his mistress, but a private investigator sees things differently. The show documents the findings of this private investigator and hears from people close to McNair. This podcast is perfect for anyone that loves both sports and true crime.
I hope you enjoy listening to a few of my favorite podcasts!
