The Most Iconic Met Gala Looks From Recent Years

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

If you, like myself, are an avid celebrity stalker and lover of all things fashion, you have been eagerly counting down the days to the 2018 Met Gala, which falls every year on the first Monday of May. Affectionately referred to as the Oscars of the fashion world, the Met Gala is one of the most exclusive fundraising events on the New York City social calendar. Each year, a new theme dictates the daring looks that decorate the red carpet, ranging from “Manus x Machina” to “China: Through the Looking Glass.”

This year’s theme is the most buzz-worthy one yet: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” Monday’s red carpet is sure to be full of Dolce & Gabbana, jewel-encrusted gowns, and probably a few offensive examples of cultural appropriation, if we’re being honest. I’ll personally be spending Monday night sitting on my couch refreshing my Instagram feed over a bottle of wine, but until then, here are some unforgettable Met Gala looks from years past.
