Just Do It: Why Nike Said It Best

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Too often we find ourselves sitting and waiting for the perfect time and the perfect opportunity to make things happen in our lives. We too often think, “there is always tomorrow”, or when a little adversity hits we say, “maybe I shouldn’t continue pursuing this dream of mine”.

In the last few weeks it has become apparent to me that there is no perfect time and there will never be. Outside of the moments that we are living right now, nothing is guaranteed. There are seven days in a week and someday is not one of them, so why not make today the day? What is holding you back and causing you to think that tomorrow will bring more opportunity than today?

It’s okay to plan; it’s okay to be cautious. But it is also okay to live and learn and make mistakes and enjoy life all at the same time. If you always live cautiously it’s hard to say that you have learned and lived to fight another day. “He who hesitates is lost”, so I challenge all of you to “just do it”.

Yes, It’s Nike’s slogan, but Nike couldn’t have been any more correct. Life is better when you let go of the excuses that are holding you back and just live. Life is too short so buy the shoes, chat with friends, call family, audition for the play, run for council, try out for the team, be you, be beautiful, live inspired, but over everything, just do it.
