The date and time are set in stone. The location has been booked and the theme has been revealed. You’re now envisioning the perfect costume in your head and feel ready to roll for next weekend. There’s only one thing missing on your agenda: a date. Yes, ladies, it’s that time of year again. Date function season is now in full swing.

Single ladies, fear not. There are easy solutions to finding perfect dates who put the “fun” in function. My best advice is to choose your date based on the category of the party. If it is a date dash or a spur-of-the-moment affair, there is no better companion than your best girlfriend. As a matter of fact, bringing your best friend to these soirees never fails; you’re guaranteed a carefree night to celebrate the single life together.

On the opposite end of the spectrum lies the dreaded parent’s formal. This occasion is especially tough on bachelorettes because finding an outgoing date to fill the awkward void of partying with parents is not an easy task. My top suggestion is to ask your closest guy friend (assuming he knows you are both in the “friend zone”), because chances are he has already met your parents or his name has at least popped up in conversation with them. Along with having less pressure to accommodate a friend, I’m confident in my theory that your parents have no desire to be introduced to that “frat star” you just met at the rave party last weekend.

For the laid-back or fun-themed date functions that have been on the calendar for a while, bring that cute guy you’ve had your eye on. Whether it’s downtown at Rapture, during the day at Mont Fair, or at Trinity on the Corner, no harm can be done in casually texting or even Facebook chatting your crush to invite him to the upcoming festivities. What better way to get to know each other than to dress up as farm animals, Hogwarts students, or cowboys?

Last but not least, don’t stress! A date function is what it is…. a college party. Fortunately our campus is big enough that you may not run into a lame date for months, but following these guidelines in your “stud search” will surely be a recipe for a success!
