How to Make the Most of the Fall Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Despite the 80-90 degree temperatures we’ve been having in Charlottesville, September 23rd marked the official start of fall. My favorite season is fall, because it includes cooler but not freezing temperatures, Halloween, my birthday, Thanksgiving, and last but not least, P-U-M-P-K-I-N. I’m here to let you know how you can make the most of your fall season, because it has so much to offer.

Get Outside

This one sounds so simple, but it’s easy to dismiss getting outside for anything else other than walking to class, especially when it’s midterms season. Taking in a breath of the crisp, cool, fresh air will help you reset and refocus. Plus, no one can pass up looking at the beautiful fall foliage, especially when the leaves turn shades of red, orange, and yellow. It’s an insta pic waiting to happen.

Go shopping for pumpkin items

Going to the grocery store often provides a sense of a break and routine for me either during the week or the weekend. Any grocery store will have a mecca of pumpkin items, but Trader Joe’s is one of my favorites this time of year. Trader Joes’ pumpkin butter is to die for. I love putting a dollop on top of my oatmeal, or spreading it on a graham cracker. I have yet to try Trader Joes’ pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and am waiting for fall break to bake up a storm. I really love to bake as many pumpkin things as I can during the season!

Apple Picking / Pumpkin Patch

With Carter Mountain Orchard right around the corner, there’s no excuse not to go apple picking! Plus, fresh apples are the best, and so much better than ones you can buy in store. You also have to make sure you hit a pumpkin patch, whether to carve for Halloween or just to decorate your home. There’s nothing like picking out a good pumpkin.
