With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it is not uncommon to hear the phrase “forever alone”, the idea that, if you do not have a significant other, you will never find love. Well, here is an article to counter those thoughts and a little reminder that love comes in many different forms, not just from a significant other.
Love is, the parent(s) who is/are currently paying for your tuition.
They tucked you in at night, read you bed time stories and now they are paying more money than ever to ensure you get a good college degree. It is no surprise that parents show love in many ways, because they were the people who loved you from the very beginning. Take the time to let them know how much they mean to you this Valentine’s Day with quick a phone call or text.
Love is the friend who is always there to lean on.
There is no doubt that life gets hard sometimes. While we can navigate our struggles alone, it is always better to have someone to help you along. Love is the friend you can count on. When it comes to friends it’s about quality, not quantity. If you have found a great friend, realize just how fortunate you are. Let them know how much they mean to you with a note and a box of chocolates on the 14th.
Love is, the sibling that won’t stop bugging you, but deep down couldn’t live without you.
Whether your sibling is younger or older than you, there is a chance that they have probably annoyed you once or twice. Fighting amongst siblings is common, but it is important to realize that while you might be each other’s own worst enemy at times, you are also each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Almost nothing can break the bond of family. Though a fight or two might get in your way, understand that if it came down to it, your sibling couldn’t live without you. Make sure you let them know how much you love them.
Love is, knowing your worth.
To put all of your self worth into one day of not having a significant other is crazy. You are so much more important than that! Think of all of the love that you give to others on a daily basis. Knowing what you bring to the table and that you are more important that one day out of the year is love in itself. Take the time for positive self-talk this Valentine’s Day, and more importantly, do something for you. You have to love yourself first before you can love others, so show yourself some TLC this February 14th.
While Valentine’s Day may only advertise love in a romantic sense, it is important to know that love comes in many forms. Keep your eyes open to these different types of love, and don’t forget to tell the people you love how much they mean to you.
