1. Themes
I live for themes. Most people do, let’s be real. If your party doesn’t have a theme- I personally believe you’re doing it wrong (but that’s just me). Themes add conversation to a party- it links two people that wouldn’t have known each other to start talking about how “Man, I love your take on the early 2000’s” or “I wish I had thought of wearing that basic flapper headband for this Great Gatsby party”. Seriously, you have endless themes to choose from- it always makes things more fun!
2. Music
Music is vital. Starting the night off with the more low-key tunes is important so that a lil conversation can happen. Then, as the night goes on introduce the songs everyone knows and can’t stop yelling at the top of their lungs (the neighbors are a big fan of: Wagon Wheel and Mr. Brightside).
3. Lighting
NO fluorescents- that’s all I beg of you people. How else is everyone supposed to take that perfectly lit selfie???????? On a serious note, some nice mood lighting changes everything. So, avoid using your ugly kitchen lights and bring in some string lights (disco ball maybe, go big or go home right?)
4. People
I mean obviously everyone is awesome but just make sure there’s a good ratio of people that know each other to those that don’t. It’s always awkward being that one person that just doesn’t know anyone there meanwhile the rest of them have known each other since 5th grade summer camp/ballet class/the womb.
5. Decorations
These aren’t thaaat important, but it’s always fun to glam your apartment up a little with some conversation starter pieces (Cardboard cutouts of some celebrity, make shift photo booth, steamers, etc.)- one really fun “decoration” is getting a snapchat filter! I went to a party recently with one and it really got people excited to have it- it’s a good way to get people to take pictures and bond!
