4 Essential (Free!) Apps For any UVA Student

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Most of us have converted to the Smartphone way of life, and are loving it. Here’s how you can utilize your Smartphone, whether it be an Android or iPhone, around grounds and Charlottesville:

Let’s start with the basics: Twitter. There are multiple UVa-related Twitter accounts that one can follow:

@UVA – hear about the latest UVa news and events (and when classes are cancelled)

@UVA_Football / @UVABasketball  – keep updated on your ‘hoos when you can’t watch or attend a game!

@UVADeanGroves – a must to follow our beloved Dean of Students!

@UVAProbs –  always useful for a good laugh here and there

@HerCampusatUVA – keep up to date with Her Campus at UVa articles and events

UVA also has its own “Good Old App” with events, news, sports updates and many other features. This app is great for students, alumni and even prospective students. The app is available for Android and iPhone, available by searching UVA in either app store.

Do you take the bus, or consider taking the bus but don’t quite understand the University Transit System? Be sure to download these handy bus apps for UVa/Charlottesville:

Transloc – Transloc allows students from various universities to select their school and which route(s) they need. The app features a GPS feature to pinpoint your location, and shows exactly where the bus stops are located. The app provides an estimated arrival time which is great for planning when to go meet the bus. The app is available for Android and iPhone.

CAT Bus – Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) is free to UVa students with a valid student ID. The Free Trolley is, well, free, and takes a similar route to the Outer Loop. The CAT Bus provides details of various CAT Buses around Charlottesville and allows one to see the locations of bus stops and estimated times of arrival. The app is available for Android and iPhone.
