3 Events You Should Go to at the Paramount Theater (That I Also Plan to Go to)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

The Paramount Theater is on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville and I think it is a bit of an undiscovered gem for a lot of UVA students. The theater does a number of live events and is also able to stream plays from the National Theater in London and the Met Opera. I just went there for the first time today to see a fantastic live streaming of Hamlet from London, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch. Tickets are only $10 for students for these events. One of the employees also told me today that if students show up 45 minutes before a show that isn’t sold out, they can get half priced tickets. These are cheap, fun options for things to do, especially now that it is getting colder!

1) Hamlet: Sunday, November 22

The theater has permission to play the recording I got to see tonight for a full year so there will be other opportunities, but if you have the time I highly recommend going to see this. Benedict Cumberbatch was simply amazing and this interpretation of the Shakespeare classic was very unique and well done. Definitely check it out as soon as you can.

2) The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Friday, October 30

This is what I’m doing the first night of “Halloweekend” no question. If you’re a fan of this cult classic definitely check it out on the 30th. They are also having a judged costume contest so feel free to show off your mad Halloween skills.

3) Coriolanus: Sunday, November 15

Okay, I might be giving myself away here a little bit because this is also a Shakespeare play that stars a hot British celebrity. This time it’s Tom Hiddleston, but I also really want to check this out and think you should too. I saw a preview for it tonight and let me just say this: bloody, sweaty, wet Tom Hiddleston. See you there.
