Shane Dawson has been making major waves lately in the YouTube community with his new-found genre of “YouTuber Docuseries.” He kicked off his new style of video in early May by traveling to Texas to do a series about Grav3yardgirl. Since then, he has since released several more of these interesting series analyzing YouTube stars such as Jeffree Star and Tana Mongeau. The latest being Jake Paul.

The first part of the eight part series premiered this yesterday afternoon at three, and with seven more parts coming, the community looks forward to two weeks of content. As a long time Shane Dawson fan, I have been watching his newer projects with great excitement. They are engaging, heartfelt, and truly interesting. But around the five minute mark of, “The Mind of Jake Paul,” I realized that these videos were going to be a huge change of pace.

The series that Shane did on Tanacon, at the time seemed super dark and intense, but after the accusation of Jake Paul’s sociopathic tendencies I was hooked. Shane touches on a number of subjects like mental and physical abuse, narcissism, and of course sociopathic tendencies. I personally really like that he is using this opportunity to expand on what he has been doing by taking it farther and looking into the psychological aspect of Jake and his online presence. He will be using the assistance of a therapist to help analyze his findings and tie everything together.

With the production quality of Shane’s videos, I think that this series will be well done and highly intriguing. The controversy around the Docuseries has sadly driven some long-time fans off.

However, Shane does not seem to be taking sides just yet, and will definitely come through with unbiased information from both sides. Just from watching that first video, I feel that he will let us decide what we think of Jake for ourselves. America loves their dark documentaries, and I think this one will usher in a new era of documentary. It will leave us saying–
