I Don’t Know What to Do With My Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UTSA chapter.

Yesterday I had a life changing idea.

This idea pertained to what I wanted to with my life, and where I saw myself in the future. I am currently a Communications major at UTSA, and I thought that I wanted to work in social media and fun creative stuff like that. I was wrong, thankfully. I am glad I realized now what I want to do with the rest of my life.

As I was writing one of my upcoming articles for Her Campus, I couldn’t help but think to myself, “Wow, I LOVE writing and I LOVE being able to express myself through this kind of creative outlet.” (YES, I DID THINK ALL OF THIS)

My boyfriend of four months kindly gave me advice, as this advice was flowing out of his beautiful lips (sorry, he’s just the love of my life.) something he said really caught my attention (because of course I was just nodding and smiling). Thomas told me to find something I love and enjoy doing. Now here I am two months later FINALLY taking his advice.

I am trying to transfer to The University of Texas at Austin, because they have a great journalism program with incredible resources to offer. A big plus is that my boyfriend goes there, but that is not why I am going. (Or why I want to go) I don’t know if I have gotten in or not, I find out June 15th of this year. It is scary, trust me. But in the end, I am just glad I have finally figured out what I want to do, I am now (partially) stress-free.

Thankfully the online magazine that I want to work for has a department that is perfect for me to apply for. It turns out, they have more openings for writers rather than social media analysts, which was a perfect sign. As I was looking at the job descriptions there was something I read that really drew me in. Humor, is something they are looking for. What? Humor? I have no idea why I was questioning this.

I HAVE A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, or so I’d like to think.

The fact that I can be as creative and humorous as I like within my writing is amazing. I knew this was just another sign. I am really going after my dream, and I can’t believe this. You may think, “What kind of article is this?” Let me explain.

I am telling my story of how I found my passion, in hopes that you become inspired to find yours as well. Although I am terrible at coming up with pitches and forming sentences, I know that I can only get better from here. Good luck on your journey.
