This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UTSA chapter.

1. The Riverwalk

The Riverwalk is a city park and network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River! Walk along beside the river and find bars, shops, restaurants, nature, public artwork, and the five historic missions. (And for a small fee, you can even sign up to take a river cruise tour and learn about the history and culture of San Antonio.)

2. Japanese Tea Garden

If you are looking to see some of nature’s wonders, you need to visit the Japanese Tea Garden. It includes an amazing waterfall and exotic plants that make the perfect setting for a romantic walk, family trip, or photoshoot.

3. Public Art San Antonio Studio

This public art studio is a great place to discover some amazing art exhibits. Their 600 piece art collection can be found in public spaces like parks, community facilities, roadways, and bridges. They also feature free workshops and educational events. Normally, their hours are Tuesday to Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m, but on Thursdays, they are open until 7 p.m.

4. McNay Art Museum

Go enjoy modern art at the McNay art museum where they specialize in 19th- and 20th-century European and American art.  Entrance to the Main Collection is free for members and for anyone under 20 years old. You can visit their galleries for free on H-E-B Thursday Nights (4–9 pm) and on the first Sundays of the Month.

5. The Pearl

The Pearl is a great place to eat, shop, or walk around! They have plenty of green spaces, a riverside amphitheater, and the third campus of The Culinary Institute of America. They also have a weekly farmers market! Rain or shine you can visit on Saturdays (9 am-1 pm) and Sundays (10 am-2 pm).

6. Texas Tulips

Okay, so this one isn’t technically free, but it’s a must-do! Whether it’s with your significant other or with friends, go see the beauty of the Texas Tulips! For $5, you can see 100 different varieties of brightly colored tulips and even pick some to take home! This is the perfect place for an afternoon picnic, a couple photoshoot, or even a few solo shots for the gram.
