An Open Letter to My Best Guy Friend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UTM chapter.

Hey Dude,

You’re pretty great. I know I don’t tell you that enough, but you are. You’re the one I call whenever I need advice from a different point of view. Sometimes it’s about boys, but most of the time it’s just about life. You always have my best interests at heart and it means the world to me. I’m writing this letter to say thank you for everything… don’t let it go to your head.

Thank you for being like a brother to me

You and I fight, bicker, wrestle and love each other like siblings, and I wouldn’t change a thing. You’re my brother here at school and it makes this place feel more like a home.

Thank you for being there when I need a shoulder to cry on

You don’t actually do this, because I think crying makes you uncomfortable, but you’re always there to make me laugh instead of cry… and that probably works out better for both of us. Whether you’re studying for finals or a six pack into a friday night you’ll always find away to be there for the ones you love. I’m lucky that includes me.

Thank you for letting me “tutor” you

Most of the time you actually know what you’re doing and don’t need my help, but you still let me teach you. Teaching is my way of learning and when you let me help you I get just as much out of it. Thank you for being my study partner and keeping me at my best.

Thank you for believing in me

Every time I say I can’t you tell me I can. You remind me of how everything will work out in the end. You remind me of what I’m good and always remind me that I’m “too stubborn” to not succeed. Even if you don’t always say it kindly, you always make me feel better.

Thank you for being you

You are unapologetically you and I wouldn’t want anything else. You’re smart, funny and incredibly annoying. You’re the best kind of friend there is.

I am a pre-vet major who loves to laugh (especially at myself), drink coffee, and spend time with my dog, Cora. I moved from Massachusetts to Tennessee to attend college at UTM and compete for their division 1 rifle team.
