Baseball Season is Back: Why You Should Embrace it

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UTM chapter.

Whether you are the biggest baseball fan or you have zero interest in the sport at all, the season is back, and you should embrace it.

Baseball is America’s favorite pastime. It always has been and always will be (unless football decides to take over the world). Every year, baseball fans around the country throw on their favorite team’s jersey and ball cap and purchase tickets to see their team at their home field. You’re probably thinking, “Why should I invest in baseball? It’s really boring.” Well, I have a few reasons why you should reconsider throwing your old ball cap in the Goodwill pile.

  1. The Ballpark Experience – Once you have walked under the arch of Busch Stadium in St. Louis, The Wrigley Field sign in Chicago, or many others, you will never be the same. As a huge baseball fan myself, there is nothing like the fresh smell of barbecue and fresh cut grass, the sea of team colors, and the warm sunshine shining on the flawless field.

  2. Rallies – For those of you that say baseball is boring, the greatest part of baseball is when it’s a tie ball game in the bottom of the 8th inning, the best hitter is up to the plate and he has broken the record for homeruns that season. The suspenseful “sitting on the edge of your seat” kind of feeling is unmatched.

  3. The Outfits – Baseball is back, which means it is now socially acceptable to rock your favorite team’s jersey, a baseball cap, and some cut off shorts. I would argue this is the cutest outfit in the world, and plus, all the guys will think you are really into sports which makes you at least 10x hotter. Trust me on this one.

  4. Day Dates – Embrace baseball because nothing makes a cuter date than you and your sweetheart sitting under the warm sunshine and sharing a hot dog while cheering your team onto another W in the book. More than likely, the stadium is in a big city. Visit the sites, go on tours, eat at a local diner and see everything there is to see. Make a day out of it! It is something you will both thoroughly enjoy, so do not knock it ‘til you try it! I can guarantee you will have a great time.

Still not convinced? Just try it. Take a leap and buy some tickets to the nearest stadium. It’s an experience that will not be soon forgotten, and you will be talking about it for ages. Heck, I would even go on to say that once you have gone to your first professional baseball game, you will be hooked for life. You’ll watch the games on TV waiting for your next opportunity to sit under the stadium lights.
