I have to say that when I got to college my first year I really was not thinking about going into greek life. I did however really want to get involved on campus. I went to various events on campus and one time, it was for Chi Beta Sigma, a local sorority here at Utica College. I got to meet the girls and everyone got along just like a sisterhood should. I thought it would be cool to have such a close bond with other girls since I have never had a biological sister.
There are several sororities and fraternities on campus, however not a huge portion of students are involved in greek life, compared to students who participate in athletic teams. I chose this school for the close knit community and the small class size. My sorority has just enough members to really get to know each other and be productive at meetings.
I joined my Spring semester of my freshman year and have never looked back. I have really enjoyed getting to know my sisters and I know that someone will always have my back. We always support and love each other no matter what. I am the community service chair for my sorority, and I make sure that we always have something planned. Whether it may be a community clean up or a fundraiser for domestic violence. I am very proud of the work we do, and I am excited to see what else we will do this year.
Being in the sorority is not always easy, but I have never regretted my decision. I have learned how to manage my time so I can get everything done as it is important to work hard so we can be successful.
