Let me start off by saying I barely survived midterms this semester, and midterms are usually a breeze for me. There are many things that you can do to help make midterm season less stressful. So, I have compiled a list of five tips that help relieve the stress that midterms bring.

Make a list of work you need/want to get done:

I actually like making lists of work I need to get done around this time in the semester. It is so helpful to have a list, so I have everything I need to do right in front of me. I get to see the work pile up (I am a world class procrastinator) and cross things off the list as I finish it. It is such a relief and makes yourself so proud knowing you got something done and no longer have to worry about it.

Go to the library:

I have only been to the library a handful of times this semester. Now, I felt as if I had to go since it was midterm season. I spent more time in there this week than I have all semester. I realized that it is much easier to do work in there. Nobody can bother me. I can get my own little cubicle or study room in there and just do my work as I please. I should have been taking advantage of the peace and quiet in the library a long time ago.

Take a break if necessary:

I had an insane workload this semester. I would actually have two windows open on my screen, trying to do the two assignments at once, that’s how much work I had. I spent more than 4 hours a day in the library, it stressed me out so much. I realized that taking a break is necessary so that I do not stress out enough to strain myself with how much work I am throwing myself into.

A proper sleep schedule:

Having a proper sleep schedule is so important during midterm time, and unfortunately I had to learn this the hard way. I refused to take a break during my work (see tip number 3). I would go to bed really late because I was up cramming and finishing papers. If I would have given myself a breather, I would not of been waking up so late in the morning and feeling exhausted, barely able to get up. This was almost a distraction during midterms.

Have a breakdown:

Midterms is a stressful time, it is right in the middle of the semester and all you can think about is how much time has passed since the semester started. Now, it is time to play catch up and finish all the work that has been procrastinated. Even spring break being right around the corner crosses your mind. This is a lot to think about so it is okay if it gets to you and you have a breakdown. I even had a breakdown like every other day this midterm season.

These are just a few of the tips that I feel as though help make midterm season less stressful. If you are feeling stressed, I suggest putting these into action. I hope these tips make midterm season easier for you to handle!

Meet Bianca, I am currently a Junior at Utica College in Utica, NY.  I am a Criminal Justice major with a concentration in Homeland Security.  Crime investigation has always been something that interests me.  I’m dedicated and passionate and it’s hard for me to quit things. I get that from my father so don’t hold it against me- he was a veteran and police officer for 20 years.   Growing up in a family centered around law enforcement has helped guide me in this direction, and I will forever be grateful.  After graduation I intend to continue on to law school where I can further my education in hopes of becoming a criminal defense lawyer and later on a District Attorney.  An interesting fact about myself is that I found the passion to be a criminal defense lawyer from watching the O.J. Simpson case.  The facts and conspiracy theories evoked a whole new passion behind criminal investigation that I intend to use in my future.  One of my most prominent moments in my writing career was when I wrote for an online magazine and had my most prevalent article hit 1.6k shares.  I believe in treating people with the same kind of respect and manners you would expect in return, and in a way it has helped shaped my expectations in life.   When you first meet me I won’t be the loudest in the room or the center of attention, but I will be intently listening to everything you say, for what you have to say may have a purpose. I believe in purpose. I believe that everyone is here to help you grow into who you are today and who you will be tomorrow.
