I hate my cell phone. It distracts me, upsets me, makes me happy, makes me sad, is there in convenient times and can even get me into trouble. I do not want something in my life that has access to so much jurisdiction over almost all of my actions. I do not want to wonder what other people are doing and have access to that information. I think technology is great for certain uses, but for me this is not one of them.
Recently I have been trying to cut down on the time that I spend on my cell phone. I only really noticed how much of my time and effort it was taking up until I began to be unable to focus while studying. Even then I did not quite think it was the overarching issue. After some closer analyzation I realized how much sense it made that it was the real issue. Leaving my phone in my room to go and study, unfortunately is unsafe, but I have done it. I got two times the work done in the same amount of time, just out of sheer ability to concentrate. There was no temptation to go and check social media or reply to my friends goofy snapchats.
I often am always thinking about someone or something that is not even in my physical field of view. This makes everything so much more complicated and stressful for my brain. I feel like I cannot even be content where I am at and need some sort of outside reinforcement. What if this were to change? I am going to find out.
Here are my goals and ways of achieving less time on my phone:

Don’t check it first thing in the morning

Don’t sit on the phone in the time right before class

No walking and looking at my phone at all

Only use it as a means of communication, and if not then only communicate with those really close to me

Only use it for social media when everything I need to do is done
I think that following these guidelines is going to set me free of the extra stress and all the mental marathons that I take place in daily because of social media use. I refuse to be one of the lonliest people within this “most connected than ever before generation” any longer.
