It is that dreaded part of the semester again, where not only are we emotionally overloaded but our agendas are overflowing and spilling out right into our laps. With all the things we have to do, there comes a deadline. The deadline always comes too soon no matter how hard we try and time manage to complete all our tasks. Here are a few rules of thumb that I use when I am overloaded with work.
1. Don’t let yourself procrastinate.
This is the root of most of the problem when it comes to struggling to get all my work done. So instead of taking those extra few minutes scrolling on your phone, get to work. This will eventually form a habit and you’ll be less likely to procrastinate.
2. Write anything and everything down.
The worst thing you can do is not write something down and then forget about it, only to find out later that now you have even more to do.
3. Prioritize your workload.
If you have one assignment due really early on in the week, focus more on that assignment than say one you have later in the week. This seems like a really obvious tip, however its really easy to get caught up in all you have to do.
4. Divide up your studying into manageable chunks.
Try not to sit in the library for 3 hours straight studying. This has proven to be counterproductive. Smaller chunks of studying ranging from 45 minutes to a hour are much more effective, and manageable.
5. Take time to do what you want to do.
If you get what you need to get done for the day over with, then take the time to enjoy whatever it is that you like to do, whether it be spending time with friends, listening to music or just watching netflix.
These are the main things that I always try and do to help me stay on track with my studying. I hope that they help or can add something new to what you do.
