Why You Need To Go Into Sephora NOW

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Buying a new lipstick is like buying a new accessory, you want it to match the season, the occasion, what you’re wearing and of course, what is flattering. Everyday, I see Sephora shoppers on the prowl for the perfect lipstick shade and I don’t always see success. That is about to change.

Lipstick means so much more to me than a small makeup product. I love having a sassy pout, expressing my mood and mixing colors to create something unique.

When a client comes into Sephora looking for a new lipstick, I receive the greatest gratification from having swatches from my hand up to my arm of a variety of nudes, pinks, berries and reds. I love watching client’s lips transform into art as I paint them with a creamy color. But what I don’t love is working ever so hard on applying a lip color and then taking it off to see what a different color looks like. I need to soak their mouths with makeup remover and scrub off a long wearing stain to try and get the next color to be somewhat true to shade.

We all know the pain and joy of finding a new lipstick, but Sephora offers a variety of innovative technology that might sway your choice in where you go to purchase your beauty products. It makes shopping for cosmetics, skincare and fragrances easier and personal. Harmony Boyer, a Luxury Brand Lip buyer at the Sephora cooperate office in San Fran quotes, “ I am excited to make it easy for a client to fall in love with new and innovative product, in a way that makes it fun!

We are part of a beauty technology revolution and with Instagram, YouTube, etc–we need to stay current and relevant.”

I am here to tell you the future has arrived. On January 28th, Sephora launched a “virtual lip application.” This means you can try on every single lipstick Sephora sells, compare colors and share different looks absolutely anywhere.

How does this work?

Well when you download the Sephora app  (you can also do this just on Sephora.com but I recommend the app) you can go to the “Inspire me” tab and click on virtual artist. A selfie will appear with every shade of lipstick lined up at the bottom. When you click on a shade the color appears on your lips. You can save up to four pictures to compare each color.

When you are walking around Sephora, go to the lipstick that is calling your name, take a selfie and save the struggle of finding the perfect lip.
