Ever wondered whose footsteps you’re treading in at the U? We’ve compiled a list of  top politicians who graduated from the U.

Calvin Rampton:Graduated with a BS in ’36 and with a JD in ’40, both from the U. He held the office of Utah Governor from 1965 to 1977. He was Utah’s only 3-term Governor. He also served as chair of the Education Commission for the States and National Governors Conference and as president of the Council of State Governments. In fact, the Salt Palace has his namesake, the “Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center”.
Rocky Anderson– Received a bachelor’s in philosophy from the University of Utah. Since then, he has served two terms as Salt Lake City’s 33rd mayor, from 2000-2008. Prior to serving as mayor, Anderson practiced law for 21 years, and at the time was listed in Best Lawyers in America.
Bob Bennett– Graduated from the U in 1953 with a degree in political science. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1992. He has served on such prestigious committees as the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee and the Senate Small Business Committee. He was also a member of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Terrel H. Bell– Bell received a Ph.D. in education from the University of Utah in 1961, where he later returned and joined the faculty. He served as acting U.S. Commissioner of Education from 1970-1971, U.S. Commissioner of Education from 1974-1976, and U.S. Secretary of Education from 1981-1985 during the Reagan Administration.
Luz Robles- BS’00 MPA ’05 was elected to the Utah state legislature in 2008 as a State Senator for District 1. She is currently the vice president and Hispanic/ Latino market manager at Zion’s Bank. She lives in Salt Lake City. 

Lexi Jones is a senior with a double major in journalism and anthropology at the University of Utah. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, she loves exploring the outdoors, rock climbing, music, and writing. She is currently a museum aid for the Bureau of Land Management. She has interned with LDS Living magazine as a writer, the Utah Museum of Natural History in the anthropology lab, and the National Society of Leadership and Success as a founding chapter president. Her inspirations are Mark Twain and Paulo Coelho. Lexi aspires to be a freelancer for National Geographic. Always pursuing multiple passions, she is currently applying to graduate school for a Masters in archaeology and a Juris doctorate, and yes, she does plan to enroll in both at the same time.
