He spotted her from across the hall, her long blonde hair cascading down her back, her little black dress looking classic as if Audrey Hepburn had just appeared, but the part he wanted, the part that he noticed the most, the part that was timeless and fun…her lips. Here are the 6 ultimate lipsticks that are on the market.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – $20

If you want a color that lasts all day, pick up a liquid lipstick. Kat Von D’s line ranges in colors from light nude to solid black.  While it dries completely matte, the formula is very drying.  You can get away with food and drink if the color is natural, but if you go for an unnatural color like Echo be prepared for reapplication. The drawback is that the consistency is very thick, but that’s the trade you make for lasting color. Pick these up online or find it at your nearest Sephora. (Cruelty free)

MAC lipstick – $17

These lipsticks come in a variety of finishes, including satin, matte, and amplified. MAC lipsticks are a bit overpriced for their quality, they won’t last through meals or long nights; but they shine at events and in photographs. You’ll have to make a special trip to a MAC counter to see these in person. If you’re feeling lazy just pick one up from their website, maccosmentics.com.  (Tested on animals)

NYX Matte Lipstick – $5.99

I cannot express how amazing these lipsticks are for the price! The packaging is a bit lacking, but the product is really what matters. These lipsticks rival MAC, feeling light while appearing highly pigmented. They wear off naturally, which means you’ll avoid having a ring around your lips. NYX is generally carried at Target or Ulta, and trust me, it is worth a special trip. They often have buy one get one half off sale going on in Ulta which makes it easy to stock up quickly. (Cruelty free.)

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm – $6.84

Grab this tube balm from any drugstore and you won’t be disappointed. It feels light like a lip balm, but the color itself dries perfectly matte, delivering a great pop of color.  I recommend these if you’re looking for an inexpensive alternative to other brands. The color won’t last as long as high-end products, but it is a great start. (Tested on Animals)

NARS Satin Lip Pencil – $26

If you can spare the money, these lip pencils are fantastic. The line is a very natural range, focusing on nudes and browns. There are a few red shades that are highly pigmented. These glide right on, and feel weightless. These come in a matte or satin finish, and you can find these online or in stock at your nearest Sephora. (Cruelty free)

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick – $22.00

Coming in hot in twenty-two shades, Urban Decay offers a fantastic collection of lip colors that feel light and hydrating, and are great for a long day in the heat. The formula applies sheer, but it is buildable. Not ultra vibrant, but this line provides a natural, hydrated look. You can pick these up in person from Sephora or Ulta, as well as online.  (Cruelty free)
