Top 6 Restaurants on State Street You Need to Try

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

State Street. When the name comes to mind it doesn’t exactly give a dazzling image, but don’t judge a book by its cover. The busy avenue is FULL of some of the tastiest, most affordable restaurants in town! Don’t know where to start? Don’t worry, here at Her Campus we’ve got you covered! These are the 6 restaurants on State Street in Salt Lake City that you NEED to try!

1. Oh Mai

(Cold cuts banh mi pictured)

Oh Mai must be short for, “oh mai these banh mis are delicious.” Seriously though, these are some of the best bahn mis in town. They are filled with perfectly cooked meat and crisp veggies sandwiched between perfect pieces of french bread. On top of some great sandwiches, Oh Mai also serve some PHO-nominal pho. The restaurant itself is pretty small, but luckily they offer to go options!

Love fried chicken? Love curry? Why not have both? That is what they thought up at Curry Fried Chicken. They have some of the best, juiciest fried chicken in town, filled with flavorful curry spices. Along with their famous chicken, CFC also offers a mouthwatering shawarma and spicy fries. Come on over to get some awesome food and enjoy the homey atmosphere.

3. La Cai Noodle House

No, this is not the upscale restaurant in Sandy (though many people do get the two confused.) Instead, this is some of the best Vietnamese and Chinese dishes in town. They are especially known for their pho, egg rolls, and bun bo hue (another Vietnamese soup, but filled with rice vermicelli and beef).

4. New Golden Dragon

This may look like a regular Chinese restaurant from the outside, but inside holds some of the best Chinese food in town. With some of the best dim sum, it makes for a hot spot. Classic dishes like wonton soup and dim sum dishes like shumai dumplings are recommended. They also encourage family dining here by offering large portions, fair prices, and lots of seating.

5. David’s Kitchen

While not exactly on State Street, it is so close and delicious it had to be mentioned. Going into David’s Kitchen, the staff will bug you to try their potstickers. Let me tell you, they are not crazy sales people, their potstickers are just THAT good. They also make a mean take on General Tso’s chicken they call General Chu’s chicken which is highly recommended.

6. Tosh’s Ramen

Imagine a big, warm bowl of piping hot soup with ramen noodles on a cold fall day. Do you want this in your life? Well then come on down to Tosh’s Ramen. They have a fairly simple ramen menu, but you can count on them all being delicious. For those wanting a spicy kick to your ramen, try the Karai ramen. For those wanting a milder ramen, the curry ramen is highly recommended.
