It’s only been an hour and I’m making plans to see this movie again.

The movie is called Faces Places (or Visages, Villages to anyone who speaks French). It’s a documentary by Agnès Varda and JR, my two favorite people today. She’s 89 and spunky as hell, he’s 33 and never takes off his hat or sunglasses. They make the most adorable dynamic artist duo, traveling the countryside in a mobile photo booth and plastering giant murals in the most beautiful of places.

I won’t spoil it for you, but I can tease at my favorite parts:

  • The way Varda dyes her hair. There’s nothing more badass than an octogenarian with colorful locks, but she’s also not afraid to show off her wisdom highlights.
  • The scene where she rides a wheelchair at breakneck speed through the Louvre is maniacally exhilarating.
  • Seeing part of both of my Grandmas in Varda, I almost cried when I realized how lucky I am to have them supporting my creative career.

So yes, I’m going to see the movie twice (thanks MoviePass!) and the next time, I’m bringing my Grandmas. You should go too! It plays at the Tower Theater through February 8.

All photos are from the film’s official website.
