A Single Girl’s Guide to Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

It’s here again, February 14th is back. This creates some type of internal conflict and/or peace in you for three reasons: 1. You’ve got your boo and you’re ready to shower them with love and affection. 2. You are single by choice and feel #BLESSED that you don’t have to worry about what to get an S.O. on a day made up by Hallmark Greeting Cards. 3.  Or maybe, all of your efforts to catch the attention of your longtime love interest have not worked, yet again, and now you get to spend yet another day wondering when they’ll realize you’re alive and clearly mad crushing on them.

Whatever your issues may be with this holiday or the feelings you have for those specific people in your life who are, or probably aren’t, announcing their undying love for you… February 14th will still be here in a matter of days. It comes every year and whether you choose to celebrate it as Valentine’s Day, S.A.D. (Single’s Awareness Day), or just another Sunday, make it a celebration anyway! If you don’t choose to celebrate it as a day of love, celebrate because you’ve lived to see another day surrounded by your dope AF friends. Grab your girls and hit the town and take advantage of all our city has to offer. With no school on Monday (thanks to President’s Day) you can really make this February 14th a Valentines to remember.

Laugh it up at the WiseGuys Comedy Club and see Cash Levy perform his hysterical improve show, It’s $15 to get in and you have to be 21 or older. Get a couple of drinks (or several, but drink responsibly), eat some food, get the giggles, and Lyft home after the show. Apparently he is pretty funny and has appeared on several different TV shows so it sounds like your sides are going to be sore after a night of listening to him.

Create matching BFF shot glasses or a custom light switch plate (you do you) at Color Me Mine! There’s a $10 firing fee and you pay for the piece of ceramic that you want to paint. Everyone will be asking your group where you got your dope mugs or kitten tea kettle. Let your self-creativity flow and hopefully your piece will turn out as good as you expect.

Get the party started on Saturday and attend One Billion Rising! It’s a flash mob styled peaceful protest against domestic violence that is held worldwide every year during Valentine’s weekend. Sheroes United (they work with women veterans) are hosting this year and it should be a lot of fun! It begins at 9:30 at the capital, go to their FB page to get more deets!

Learn to appreciate the arts at Capitol Theater this weekend while watching Swan Lake! Get dressed up, go get some yummy brunch, and head down town to witness this beautiful ballet. Tickets begin at $29 and go up from there, not too bad if I say so myself.

Rent a hotel room downtown or at one of the many resorts around the valley and relax and treat yourself to a hot tub, champagne filled weekend chilling with your girlfriends. There are tons of deals on Groupon right now, so reserve your room fast!

Whether you take my advice or not to make it an eventful Valentine’s Day, hopefully you and your friends can cause enough trouble where you can take full advantage of President’s Day and recuperate from the day before until school is back on Tuesday.
