Recipes You’ve Seen on TikTok but Probably Forgot About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

For those of you that are frequently on TikTok, you know that there is no shortage of viral recipes. There seems to be a new one nearly every month that everyone is trying to replicate. From potatoes to pasta, TikTok recipes cover all of your favorite indulgences. But with so many coming and going, trying to remember the one that you were looking for can be impossible. So, here are a few that you may have forgotten about!

Salmon Rice Bowl

The most recent of the viral recipes, this easy-to-make bowl became popularized by TikTok’s newest favorite chef, @emilymariko.

Ingredients:

  • Leftover or freshly cooked salmon (½ filet)
  • Leftover or freshly cooked rice (1 cup)
  • 1 ice cube
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Japanese Kewpie mayo
  • 1 tbsp Sriracha
  • ½ avocado
  • 1 package of roasted seaweed (on the side)
  • ¼ cup Kimchi (on the side
  1. Mash up salmon on a plate. Add rice on top of the salmon.
  2. (For leftover salmon and rice) Put an ice cube on top of the rice and place a small sheet of parchment paper on top. Crunch the paper over the salmon and rice. Place in the microwave for 1 minute or 1.5 minutes.
  3. Once microwaved, pour the soy sauce on top. Then, add/drizzle Kewpie mayo and Sriracha. You can add more or less of any of these sauces to your liking.
  4. Mix together.
  5. Add kimchi on the side.
  6. Enjoy by itself or with each bite wrapped in roasted seaweed.

Baked Feta Pasta

One of the most popular, if not the most popular viral recipes, is the baked feta pasta dish. While seemingly unconventional at first, this pasta dish is tasty and fairly simple to make. If all of TikTok can do it, so can you!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of cherry tomatoes
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 1 block of feta cheese
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • ¼ cup basil
  • Any pasta you prefer
  1. Preheat oven to 400° and start boiling the water for pasta.
  2. Add cherry tomatoes to a baking dish. Drizzle with most of the olive oil  and add salt and pepper to your liking.
  3. Add in the feta block in the middle of the dish. Drizzle the rest of the olive oil on the feta block. Add more salt and pepper on the block to your liking.
  4. Bake for 35 minutes.
  5. Once tomatoes and feta are in the oven, begin boiling your pasta.
  6. Mince garlic and shred basil.
  7. When the feta and tomato mixture is done, take it out and add in the garlic and basil. Mix.
  8. Add the cooked pasta and mix again.

Roasted Crispy Potatoes

My personal favorite are these potatoes, which were liked on TikTok by Kylie Jenner herself. While she’s no professional chef, she’s still Kylie Jenner — a like from her is a big deal. Created by culinary student @jeremyscheck, these potatoes are a tasty side to any meal. This recipe is really based on how you like your potatoes. I’ve made these many times and have adapted the recipe a bit. You can find the original on scheckeats.com.

Ingredients:

  • ½ to 1 bag of mini gold potatoes (depending on how many people you are feeding)
  • Avocado oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Seasoned salt
  • Garlic powder
  • Sweet paprika
  • Herbs de provence
  • Cayenne pepper
  1. Preheat oven to 450°
  2. Wash and cut potatoes to your liking. I usually quarter them.
  3. Add potatoes to a pot of cold water. Add as much salt as you like and bring to a boil.
  4. Once they boil, cook them for 10-15 more minutes or until they are fork tender. You can lower the heat a bit.
  5. Drain the potatoes and rough them up a bit with a spoon. Move to a baking pan. I cover my baking pan with a sheet of foil.
  6. Drizzle the avocado oil.
  7. Add spices to your liking. Mix.
  8. Put in the oven for 20 minutes, tossing them every 5 minutes.
  9. Once they’re done, leave them in the oven to crispen up for about 10 minutes.

Dalgona Coffee

Popularized during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic back in 2020, Dalgona or “whipped” coffee makes your morning coffee a little more work but much more fun.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp instant coffee
  • 2 tbsp cold water
  • Ice (to liking)
  • Milk (to liking)
  1. Add sugar, coffee, and water to a bowl
  2. Using a stand or hand mixer, mix until looks whipped
  3. Pour milk over ice into a cup
  4. Serve whipped coffee on top

Pasta chips

For those who love pasta and chips and never knew they could be merged together into one delicious snack, try this out!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of any pasta you like
  • ½ cup parmesan or as much as you like
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Any spices you like (most commonly used are salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder)
  1. Cook your pasta. Drain.
  2. In a bowl, drizzle pasta with olive oil. Add parmesan cheese and spices
  3. Air fry for 15 minutes at 400°, tossing twice while frying.

Tortilla wrap

This simple snack is perfect for everyone, as you can personalize it however you want!

Ingredients:

  • 1 large tortilla (burrito size)
  • Your choice of protein
  • Your choice of 2 vegetables/other ingredients
  • Your choice of sauce
  1. Place your tortilla on a cutting board. Cut a line from the bottom to the center of the tortilla.
  2. Look at your tortilla as if it is divided into quarters. Place your protein in one of the quarters, your vegetables/other ingredients in two of the quarters, and your sauce in the last quarter. Remember to leave room in between each quarter to fold.
  3. Add seasoning if you’d like any.
  4. Start with one of the quarters to the side of the cut. Fold it over the other and continue until you’ve made a triangle-like tortilla wrap. Push down lightly so that it holds.
  5. There are a few ways to heat it up, or you can eat it cold
    • Microwave: microwave for 10 seconds.
    • Skillet: grill until golden brown, flipping over a couple times to prevent burning.
    • Toaster oven: heat at 325 for 10 minutes.
