One Hit Wonders: The Loved and Forgotten

Tuesday September 25th is One Hit Wonders Day. Now, many of you may have heard of this term, but have no idea what an actual one hit wonder is. In music, a one hit wonder is an artist that has one song that becomes popular in the mainstream, but none of their other songs make it to the top. Some one hit wonders you have probably jammed out to are:

  • Macarena by Los Del Rio (the BEST dance song ever)

  • Who Let the Dogs Out? by Baha Men

  • Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice

  • Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas

  • Take on Me by A-ha

Some one hit wonders are much lesser known or have been forgotten throughout the years, depending on what era you were born in. Here are some that you may have forgotten about or never heard of, that you should definitely listen to:

  • The Safety Dance by Men Without Hats

  • 99 Luftballoons by Nena

  • My Sharona by The Knack

  • Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles

  • Always Look on the Bright Side of Life by Monty Python

If you’re feeling nostalgic or just want to listen to some good music, check these out while taking a break from your studies!
