Meet Jared Seachris! One of the best people to talk to if you have any questions about the U! He has spent his few years on this campus devoting himself to making the U a better place for everyone.

Name: Jared Seachris

Year: Junior

Major: Accounting

Campus involvement: Business Scholars Program, Honors College, served as Associate Director of the Student Advocacy Board, member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

HC: What made you decide to become so involved with the U?

Jared: I love the University of Utah, working with students, public speaking, and telling incoming students about the passion I have for my school!

HC: What is your favorite group that you are a part of?

Jared: Well, I have a personal connection with Sigma Chi. We raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute located on campus. Without the Huntsman Institute, it’s likely my dad wouldn’t be with us. He was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in 2010, and the Huntsman Cancer saved his life.

HC: Which of the projects you worked on are you most proud of?

Jared: With Student Advocacy Board, the main initiative I worked on was The Clothesline Project.

HC: Tell us more about that!

Jared: The CLP is a medium through which survivors of sexual assault can tell their story, and have it presented in a public space. The survivors decorated a t-shirt confidentially, and gave it to us, then we hung it on a clothesline in the Union. This was a great medium for expression from survivors, and started a lot of conversation about sexual assault prevention, as well as the resources available for survivors.

HC: What is next for you?

Jared: I am running for Student Body President because I absolutely love the University of Utah. It has been my home, in every sense of the word, for the last couple of years. The more I’ve done around campus, the more passionate I’ve become about the U, and its students. I believe I can make a positive difference on campus, and make the U a better, more equitable place for all of my fellow students.

HC: What’s a fun fact about you?

Jared: When I was in high school, I was the lead guitarist in a rap-rock band called “The Defience Theory” And yes I know we spelled ‘defiance’ wrong, we were trying to be edgy…it didn’t work. Also, even though we were a rap-rock band, we didn’t have a vocalist.
