If Life Was a Movie

Have you ever been watching a movie and wished that cinematographic tricks worked in the real world? I know I have. Unfortunately, we don’t have makeup artists, stunt-doubles, or do-overs in our day-to-day life. Here are some ways that life would change for the better or worse if it was more like the silver screen.

1)      You would get fit and start eating right in a cute montage set to a Katy Perry song. Rather than spend months or even years perfecting a workout routine and forcing yourself to say “no” to that tempting tub of Ben & Jerry’s, you could have your bikini-ready body in less than a minute. The soreness, the setbacks, and the cheat days would all fade out as a much more flattering shot of you in adorable workout clothes drinking a green smoothie faded in. A girl can dream, right?

2)      The cute boy you’ve been casually observing, it’s not stalking, around campus would notice you in an awkward but endearing scene where you drop your books, he reaches down to help you, and your hands touch with unmistakable chemistry. Cue Taylor Swift’s Sparks Fly because that blue-eyed dreamboy just became accessible thanks to your clumsiness.

3)      Simply by removing your glasses or putting your hair up, you become ten times hotter, complete with immaculate makeup and the confident posture of someone who has always known she’s drop-dead gorgeous. Who knew that contacts could perfect your pores, straighten your teeth, and smooth your hair?

4)      No one would be happy if you were happy. In real life, happy endings are a hot commodity and those around you are, more often than not, genuinely happy for you. In movies, however, the audience craves blood, heartbreak, and disaster. Since the beginning of performing arts, we haven’t been satisfied with happy stories from start to finish. We want the pain and suffering before the entire problem is wrapped up in the last five minutes. If life were more like a movie, people would feed off your unhappiness like a drug but expect you to persevere for your happy ending.

So maybe we’re better off in the non-edited world where people make mistakes and where you have to work to achieve your goals. But rather than being dramatic and exciting in all the right places, life is spontaneous. It’s unpredictable. Our so-called dull lives are full of the excitement that is crammed into movies. You just have to look for it.
