If the “Glove” Fits: The OJ Simpson Update

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

When most of us think back to the year 1994 we think about scrunchies and The Backstreet Boys, but there was actually something much bigger going on. Some saw it as the “trial of the century,” and others saw it as a guilty man walking away free. This was the OJ Simpson murder case.

Flash forward to 13 years after the former NFL Football star plead “100% not guilty” to the charges against him for murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. He may have gotten away scotch-free from that case, but he wouldn’t be found innocent for long.

The year is now 2007. Brittany had just shaved her head, and Simpson had been charged with kidnapping and armed robbery. Simpson, and other friends, robbed a hotel casino in Las Vegas at gunpoint, to steal his sports memorabilia, that was later sold to pay off his debts. After the murder trial, Simpson lost millions upon millions, and this robbery was his last scathing attempt to get it back. However, in 2008, Simpson was sentenced 9-33 years in the Lovelock Correctional Center.

This summer, OJ Simpson was approved for parole, only nine years into his sentence. On October 1st, while we were all retweeting the infamous vine, “it’s freakin bats, I love Halloween”, Simpson walked away from the Nevada Prison at 12:08am, ready to start his new life. He was released in the middle of the night for public safety reasons. The terms of his parole are no drug use or heavy alcohol drinking. Anything over a .08 will be considered heavy alcohol drinking for the newly-released convict. Simpson has also mentioned wanting to eventually move back to Florida, but that dream won’t be a reality if Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has anything to say about it.

A lot of people expect OJ Simpson to get into trouble again, but only time will tell. So keep an eye out OJ, the world is watching.
