Her Campus Exclusive: Metro Station

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

They are the tatted-up older brothers of the Disney stars we idolized and as we got older, we fell in a hopeless crush with the duo that brought to the surface all of the angst we felt as teens, the perfect combination of electro-pop sound and rock, and the tattooed bodies played into our bad-boy fantasies. Metro Station is back and better than ever with their second studio album Savior.  Playing live in Salt Lake City on December 11th, Metro Station is sure to bring back all of the memories of the band you listened to on repeat in high school, screaming the words to Shake It and add a new twist with their new music.

Her Campus Utah got an exclusive interview with Mason Musso.

HC: What are you most looking forward to coming to Utah?

MM: We love the people & fans we have in Utah. [Salt Lake City] has always been a great place for us to play. The reaction we get from our fans there is what we miss the most.

HC: Any tour must haves?

MM: The biggest must have for us on the road is a great selection of music for us to listen to on our drives. Sometimes they can be very long and a bit boring.

HC: How does touring effect your ability to produce music? Do you feel inspired on a tour? Is it easy to feel more motivated seeing fans all of the time?

MM: Writing & producing on the road is, in my opinion, a little more difficult on the road. We always are inspired by our fans of the crowd is amazing we play better and we feed off the energy our fans show us.

HC: What songs are your favorites to perform?

MM: We love playing our hit songs like Shake It and 17forever but we also love playing our new song with Ronnie Radke “Getting Over You” it’s our new fave!

HC: After releasing your second full length album “Savior” what songs from that are your favorites to play?

MM: I love “Married in Vegas” and “Better Than Me” from the new mix-tape “Savior” We haven’t played them live yet but will on future tours.

HC: How have you grown individually as musicians as well as as a duo?

MM: We have grown in many ways. I guess the biggest being the fact that we started the band at 17 and broke up at 20. Now we are both 26 and way more mature and know exactly what we want to do with our brand.

HC: How has the respect you have for each other and each other’s musical talents grown and changed since you’ve been releasing music for so long?

MM: We respect each other more than ever. We are older and wiser and don’t sweat the small stuff. Running a biz as a teenager was kinda crazy but now we have a lot figured out. We will always be learning new ways to improve and be better men. We are very excited about our return to this industry and to the sound that we started.

HC: As a band, you have to spend so much time together in order to accomplish the goals you have, and even to just work! What’s the best part about working so closely and creatively with someone?

MM: It’s amazing to have a brother to bounce ideas off of and have a solid team behind us. We closer than ever and have a great respect for each other.

HC: Anything else you want our readers to know?

MM: Make sure you grab a copy of our new mix-tape Savior and also catch us on the road with our friends Falling in Reverse & Attila on the super villains tour. Thanks to all our fans that are with us during the second coming of Metro Station!
