A Girl’s Guide to Watching Football

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

As women we were never taught how to watch football like men were. For some reason, men find it either incredibly attractive or incredibly annoying when we join in. That all depends on how we act thought! Here are some easy do’s and don’ts for watching football with a man:

DO learn the basics of football.

All I know about football is that they have 4 downs to go 10 yards. At the 3rd down, if they have not gone the 10 yards they should punt (kick) the ball. A touchdown is worth 6 points, and a field goal is worth 1 point. You’re welcome.

DON’T forget which team is “his team.”

When “his team” gets a touchdown, cheer! When you see them doing well, cheer! This is not the time for him to teach you how to watch football. Save that for a date night suggestion. I promise he will never turn down that date idea.

DO wear “his team’s” colors.

If you can, buy a hat or a jersey to wear on game day. If that’s not in your budget, at least wear the colors. Just make sure you’re not wearing the other teams colors!

DON’T try to snuggle with him.

Just don’t try it. If a guy is snuggling with you during a game, he either really loves you or is not that into the game at the moment.

DO bring snacks.

If he’s watching the game with the guys, drop off his favorite wings and beer. If you’re both going to watch it with a lot of people, take a bean dip or ask the host what you can bring.

DON’T talk during the game.

The is tthe worst time to tell him every last detail of your day. Wait until half-time or a commercial to use these. Nothing will make you more annoying than talking in the middle of the game.

Whatever the outcome of the game have something planned to celebrate. This is a fabulous way to show him that you care. It will help you win over his heart no matter what.
