Geneva Thompson ’13, ASUU President

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

For this week’s campus celebrity I met with Geneva Thompson, ASUU president and current student at the U. Now when I say president of ASUU I mean that Geneva represents all the students at the U. After sitting with Geneva for an hour I was amazed at everything she managed to accomplish over the past 5 years here at the University of Utah. Triple majoring in History, Political Science, and Asian Studies while still working 40-50 hours a week for ASUU, Geneva has clearly taken full advantage of her time here.

Geneva’s favorite part of being involved with ASUU is interacting with students that she normally would not get the chance to meet. She strongly encourages more female students to join and become part of ASUU. Being one of the few female presidents of ASUU, Geneva’s advice for women on campus is that they should in no way be afraid to run for office and that they are just as qualified as their male counterparts. The key to taking that extra step in getting involved is showing up. Whether it is a small event or just a club meeting, make it a point to be there and speak up about what you think.

You can always find Geneva at the Union whether it is just hanging out with friends or having lunch in the food court. Start a conversation with her the next time you see her and let her know if you have any cool ideas you want to see at the U!
