I don’t know about you, but I have been playing a lot more video games since the beginning of the pandemic. If you are like me, then you have probably been playing Animal Crossing nonstop since it came out. But it might be time for you to play something new because let’s be honest, the Animal Crossing fatigue is real. So, I made a list of games that you should be playing before you eventually get sucked back into Animal Crossing.

Fire Emblem Three Houses

This is probably my favorite game that I have ever played on the Switch. In this game, you play as a professor who joins the prestigious Officers Academy. The Academy is a school that the three neighboring countries send their heirs to. When you start the game you will have to pick which one of the classes you will teach during the year. Each class has different characters and separate stories from one another. Between the character interactions, the strategy elements, and the engaging story, there is so much here that you won’t get bored of it anytime soon.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix

This is the game I like to play when I just want to chill out. This is a rhythm game with the Japanese anime pop star Hatsune Miku and her friends. In this version of Project DIVA, you can switch between classic mode where you press buttons to the rhythm, or you can use the new motion control mode with your joycons. Every time you clear a song you will gain points, and once you get enough points you will be able to dress your characters up in different outfits to wear while you play your favorite songs.

Code Realize Guardian of Rebirth

This is one of my favorite otome games (aka a Japanese dating sim.) In this game you play as Cardia, a girl whose skin is covered in poison. Her father is missing and she is isolated from the outside world — that is until she is kidnapped/saved by Lupin, the mysterious phantom thie. She is sent on an exciting adventure filled with love, mystery, and action throughout steampunk London. Throughout the story, you are able to pick options that will change the outcome of the story. Each option that you pick will help decide which one of the five eligible guys Cardia will end up with, while also discovering the secrets of why her skin is covered in poison and what actually happened to her father.

Rune Factory 4

Rune Factory 4 is a fun farming RPG game in which the main character and friends fall from an airship onto a dragon. After losing all of their memories, they are tasked with taking charge of the town they fell into. To save the town and the local town dragon, they must farm, explore dungeons, and town the townsfolks (and maybe even date one of them.) I found this game to be the perfect mixture of fighting, farming, and dating.

Dragon Quest XI

In my opinion, Dragon Quest is probably one of the best game series of all time. This is a class RPG game in which the goal is to save the land from total destruction. Playing as the main hero, the luminary, you must figure out a way to save the world from total chaos while being hunted by an evil king. During your adventure, you will explore an amazing world and meet interesting characters that you will easily fall in love with. This game will take you on an adventure that you will not forget anytime soon.

I know that right now there is a lot going on. With COVID and all other stressful aspects of our lives, things can seem a bit overwhelming. However, I do hope that you pick up one of these amazing games to play to entertain yourself. Plus, it can hopefully take your mind off of the crazy things that are going on in the world right now.
