When winter rolls around, it’s normal to mourn the departure of summer and fall; however, there is a difference between feeling melancholy about the impending winter, and feeling a paralyzing dread. Odds are, if you experience this paralyzing dread, you are a daughter of the sun god, Apollo, and were clearly born in the wrong hemisphere of the world. Here are five telling signs that the heat is your soul mate:

1. You’re Cold Even When It’s “Warm”

While other people are wearing shorts in fifty-degree weather, you’re still horribly cold and will be wearing a winter coat, beanie, leggings and boots. Even too much AC in the gym or an office building is nearly unbearable for you. Shorts and swimsuits are absolutely prohibited until it is stably hot outside.

2. Even When It’s “Too” Hot, It’s Not

You can handle the heat! Even while others are begging for air conditioning, it’s still not hot enough for you! You embrace the heat, to a point where you might even be sweating. Essentially, excessive heat or warmth is welcome, and anything less than seventy degrees is a no-go.

3. The Cold Makes You Cry

Walking between classes, or dealing with driving in the snow… you’ve never felt more miserable. Each day the temperatures plummet, so does your hope. Even a surplus of hot chocolate and five layers of blankets cannot make up for the coldness outside. People might accuse you of depression, when really, it’s just a chronic case of cryophobia (fear of the cold).

4. You Wish it was Summer all Year Long

Besides the obvious reasons, summer is the best time of year for you, and even if it’s pushing a hundred degrees, you love it. In fact, bring on 120-degree weather! You’d take blistering heat over the piercing cold any day of the week! And while spring and fall may be somewhat enjoyable, luke-warmth cannot replace the heat under ANY circumstances.

5. All of Your Dream Vacation Spots are at or Near the Equator

The hotter, the sunnier, the better. You’re up for the tropical islands, the warm Mediterranean waters, and any place where the coldest items are the ice cubes in your lemonade. Paradise for you just isn’t paradise without the option of sunbathing.

Ultimately, unlike Elsa, the cold bothers you every day, and only the heat can help. But don’t lose hope, collegiettes! Summer is just around the corner!
