Alex Lake, Girl on Fire

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Keep those cameras flashing for campus celebrity of the week ALEX LAKE

Have you ever had a job? Two jobs? Well how about three jobs?! That’s exactly how many University of Utah campus jobs Miss Lake holds, wow! When Her Campus sat down with Alex for a one-one-on interview it’s clear to see why this young woman has such star qualities and presence throughout campus.

Her Campus: So Alex, tell us a little about you….

Alex: Well, I grew up in West Valley City, right here in Utah, I’m 19 years-old and a Communication Studies Major and loving it!

HC: Great, now can you share with us a little more about your 3 jobs on campus?

Alex: Sure! One job title I hold is an Associate Director for UPC, specifically the Community Service Board. Basically, I help plan events in the Union. A popular one university students might recall was “Food for Finals” where breakfast was served to any student who came by the Union Ballroom the week before finals.

HC: Well I’m sure many of our bellies remember it, I know mine does! And what about the other two jobs?

Alex: Of course, I am also a Program Coordinator for the orientation office and I have been doing that for two years now. I deal a lot with planning the orientation and mentoring incoming orientation leaders. And just recently, I stepped in as an R.A. (Resident Advisor) and that title includes monitoring the dorms I am in charge of. Making sure I update posters, post agendas, plan activities and most importantly making the residents feel at home here at the U. It’s a blast!

HC: Sounds like you have lots on your plate Alex! Is the pressure sinking in?

Alex: Having three jobs now is pretty time consuming but actually my biggest concern was last month when becoming an R.A. I feared residents wouldn’t like me! I was afraid it would be hard for them to accept someone new coming in mid-year, in December, but honestly from my fellow R.A.’s and residents all I see is support. Oh, and having a chocolate basket in my room for when residents come and talk to me definitely helps (giggles).

HC: Yes, chocolate baskets can definitely come in handy. Thanks for sitting down and chatting with Her Campus with your obviously busy schedule! Is there anything else you would like to add?

Alex: Oh no problem! Let’s see, if anyone is thinking to become involved in my jobs or other activities on campus totally go for it! With my experience, it’s really easy, convenient and fun to be able to work and live on campus. Best of luck to everyone!
