Finals are over people- which means you finally a month (give or take a few days) without midterms or finals to do. This means the freedom to whatever you want before spring semester starts, or at least the freedom to do whatever you want after your shifts at work. This kind of freedom can be daunting, and your FOMO can come out real quick if you don’t plan accordingly. Here’s 10 things you can do to have an exciting winter break!

1. Book a hotel room, and stay the night with friends

Book a room in a city or suburb hotel, grab some pizza, and split the cost on Venmo between you and a few friends. This is a great idea if you want to get-away but are still on a college budget.

2. Try a winter sport

If you’re like me, and have lived in Utah your entire life, meaning you’ve been through countless snow storms and have visited many of the 2002 Winter Olympic arenas, but still have never gone snowboarding or skiing, this is the year to try it!

3. Bake some holiday, and give some to your neighbors/roommates/family

I suggest Pinterest for cute holiday recipes. Just a couple hours should do the trick to create cute and festive holiday treats. Calories don’t count until 2019, right?

4. Grab a blanket, a book or drawing pad, a warm mug of tea, and lounge by the fire all day

‘Nuff said

5. Play a board game

Indulge in some good ole’ fashioned board games by the fire. Pull out your old version of Monopoly, and spend the whole day with your family or friends.

6. Go ice skating

I would suggest the Murray Ice Rink for anyone who’s a beginner, the Olympic Oval for those who have skills, but don’t like the outside, and The Gallivan Center for anyone up for skating outside!

7. Go to a holiday concert

The Utah Symphony and the Tabernacle at Temple Square all hold concerts during the holidays

8. See the lights

I highly suggest the Temple Square for everyone who has never been. If you don’t want to be in the cold, I suggest Christmas in Color in South Jordan or Thanksgiving Point’s Luminaria.

9. Try an escape room

I would definitely do this on a weekday before the elementary and high schools get out for break.

Whatever you do, just be sure to get out, and get over FOMO this holiday break! Enjoy all your free time, while you don’t have classes or finals to attend to (because this bliss won’t last long).
