5 Secret Starbucks Drinks You Didn’t Know Existed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Working at Starbucks comes with many perks, but the best one is definitely all the free drinks you can have on break or after your shift. Free drinks lead to lots of interesting and delicious new drink ideas. You can order these at practically any Starbucks location, as long as you know what goes in them. Here are five secret Starbucks drinks, created by baristas.

1. Cookies and Cream Frappuccino®

This Frap tastes exactly like a cookies and cream shake!

How to order:

  • Start with a Vanilla Bean Frappuccino®

  • Add java chips

  • If you desire even more chocolatey goodness, ask for mocha drizzle on top of the whipped cream

2. Breve Bomb

Many baristas will use this small drink to boost them up during a shift. Order this if you want a quick pick-me-up, but you don’t really want to just down shots of hot, bitter espresso all by themselves.

A breve bomb comes in a short-sized cup (8 oz). It is filled halfway with breve, which is half and half, and pumps of flavoring. Then, a large spoon is placed over the cup creating a barrier while shots of espresso are pulled over the cup so that they are separated from the breve. This way, when you drink it, your mouth first tastes the sweet, cold breve, then followed by the hot espresso shots. You can order any flavoring, my favorite is one pump of vanilla and one pump of hazelnut.

How to order:

  • Ask if the barista knows what a Breve Bomb is. If they don’t, here’s how to order:

    • Ask for a short cup filled halfway with breve and your desired flavoring

    • Then, ask for shots of espresso (typically a double-shot), pulled on top of the cup, separated by holding a large spoon over the cup while the espresso pulls

5. Honey Citrus Mint Tea (also known as the Medicine Ball or Cold-buster)

This tea is amazing. It tastes super yummy, and I swear it also has magical powers. Whenever I’m sick and get this tea, I always feel a million times better.

How to order:

  • If you ask for the Honey Citrus Mint Tea, or Medicine Ball, or Cold-buster, the barista will likely know what you’re talking about
  • If not, order like this:

    • Start with one tea-bag of Jade Citrus Mint tea, one tea-bag of Peach Tranquility tea

    • Add half cup hot water, half cup steamed lemonade

    • Add two packets of honey

  • If the store doesn’t have these two teas, you can order it with any two teas that catch your eye!
