25 Things You Learn By Being the Older Sibling

Whether you loved your sibling from the second your parents told you you were going to have a new friend or hated them from the start, your sibling will now and always be a part of your life.  Whether you liked it or not, you learned more life lessons than you can think of, but the experience is something special.

1.     You are responsible for the well being of your sibling.

2.     Sharing is caring. (kind of)

3.     Your parents blame you for everything, even when it is not your fault.

4.     You learn how to take care of others.

5.     If someone bullies your sibling they bully you too, and you are the one who has to fight the fight because you are the only one that is allowed to do that.

6.     You learn how to be a role model and mentor.

7.     You learn how to give stellar advice and even start to think you could be the next Oprah.

8.     You learn how to love and hate someone at the same time.

9.     Making sacrifices is sometimes necessary.

10.  “What’s mine is yours.”

11.  You learn how annoying both your and your younger siblings’ screams are.

12.  You’ll have less space everywhere you go.

13.  You are never ever alone.

14. The mistakes you make when you were younger are not as big of a deal as you think they were.

15. Regardless of your age gap, you are held to a high standard.

16. You become a professional babysitter.

17. Every move you make, you are setting an example for your sibling if you like it or not.
