14 Greatest Valentine’s Day Episodes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Whether you are spending your Valentine’s day with your significant other, your best friends, your favorite pet, or even just a package of Oreos, these fourteen episodes are sure to make this Valentine’s day fantastic, and better yet, they are all available for streaming on Netflix or Hulu.

New Girl – Season 1 Episode 13: Valentine’s Day

In this episode, Jess tries to have an attachment-free one night stand for her first single Valentine’s day experience, Winston sits through ladies night in order to spend time with a girl he likes, and Nick spends the night waiting for his girlfriend to get off work. This episode proves to us all that a hook up with no emotional connection rarely turns out good for anybody, and a little patience can take you a long way. It is a great episode for anyone looking for a good laugh, whether you are in a relationship or not.

Parks and Recreation – Season 2 Episode 16: Galentine’s Day

This episode is all about “ladies celebrating ladies.” Leslie Knope celebrates all of her amazing lady friends and later works to reunite her mother with the man of her dreams (who turns out to be a crazy person). Also in this episode, Mark and Ann celebrate their first Valentine’s day as a couple, April realizes her feelings for Andy, Leslie realizes her boyfriend isn’t the man she thought he was, and Tom has problems with his divorce. While very little goes well for the Parks and Rec gang, this episode tells us all to appreciate the gals in our lives and helps us understand that everyone has troubles on Valentine’s day whether solo or in a relationship.

The Office – Season 7 Episode 16: PDA

The office is fed up with Michael and Holly’s constant PDA, Andy and Erin solve Gabe’s romantic Valentine’s day riddles, and a very drunk Jim and Pam try to join the list of office members who have had sex in the office. This episode is sure to give you a good laugh, some ideas for what to do next Valentine’s day, and much like every other episode of The Office, it shows you exactly how not to act in the workplace.

How I Met Your Mother – Season 6 Episode 16: Desperation Day

In this episode, Ted struggles in his relationship with Zoey, Lily agonizes over not spending Valentine’s day with Marshall watching predator, and Barney chases after women desperate to find a date for Valentine’s day on his new favorite holiday: Desperation day. No matter who you are or what your relationship status is, this episode is sure to put a smile on your face and make your Valentine’s day great.

Friends – Season 1 Episode 14: The One With The Candy Hearts

“The One With The Candy Hearts” deals with the danger of going on a blind date, and the techniques of breaking the “bad boyfriend cycle.” Chandler and Joey go on a date where Chandler is reunited with one of his most annoying exes, the girls have a cleansing ritual that gets a little out of hand, and Ross has trouble moving on after his divorce with Carol. It is a great episode for anyone who has had trouble with exes in the past and needs a little closure.

Glee – Season 2 Episode 12: Silly Love Songs

This is by far one of the cutest episodes on this list. The New Directions are told to sing what they think is the “world’s greatest love song,” and because they are the Glee club, the whole episode is about romance, hope, connections, stolen kisses, spite, and heartbreak. The music in this episode, like most other Glee episodes, is great, and it is sure to put you in the Valentine’s day mood.

The Office – Season 5 Episode 18: Blood Drive

This episode is perfect for hopeless romantics that believe they will find their prince charming someday. Michael finds the glove of a woman he met at the office blood drive and holds a lonely hearts get together in order to find her. Also, two of the few couples in the office, Pam & Jim, and Phyllis & Bob Vance, go on a lunch date that turns very awkward. This episode is great for couples and singles alike, and it is definitely one of the best episodes on this list.

Parks and Recreation – Season 4 Episode 14: Operation Ann

This episode is all about standing by your friends and finding them a date for cupid’s holiday. Leslie spends the whole day finding a “perspective sweetheart” for Ann while simultaneously sending Ben, Ron, and Andy on a wild and romantic scavenger hunt. The episode has a surprise ending and is sure to entertain you whether you are feeling lonely like Chris, lost like Ann, or absolutely in love like Ben and Leslie.

Bob’s Burgers – Season 3 Episode 13: My Fuzzy Valentine

This Bob’s Burgers episode is full of laughs and is sure to make your holiday great. Bob gives Linda a cheesy Valentine’s day present and the kids convince him to keep them out of school so they can help him find the perfect gift for his wife. Meanwhile, Linda holds a speed dating event (that goes slightly out of hand) at the restaurant, and Tina struggles with her feelings for Jimmy Junior. This episode teaches us the important difference between “from” and “love” on a Valentine’s day card, and it teaches us about the difficulties of finding the perfect Valentine’s day gift. I highly recommend that you watch this episode if you are looking for a light and funny episode.

Orange Is The New Black – Season 2 Episode 6 – You Also Have A Pizza

As the inmates prepare for Valentine’s day, they each define what love means to them, and while all of their definitions are amazing, one of the best descriptions is absolutely Poussey’s (see below). Meanwhile, Red finds a loophole in the system, Vee takes over the custodial system, and Larry asks Piper to be his spy for an article on the prison. This episode is strangely both unsuitable for the innocent and absolutely adorable all at the same time.

Gilmore Girls – Season 6 Episode 15: A Vineyard Valentine

In this episode, we get to see how awkward it would be to spend Valentine’s day with your mom and each of your very different boyfriends. Rory and Logan invite Lorelai and Luke to Martha’s Vineyard, and because Luke is suspicious of Logan’s impact on Rory, he is very cynical for the entirety of the trip. This episode is funny, sad, frustrating, and cute all at the same time.

Friends – Season 8 Episode 15: The One With The Birthing Video

In this episode, the gang celebrates Valentine’s day, and things don’t go as planned. Joey deals with his feelings for Rachel, Ross forgets to tell Mona that Rachel moved in with him, and Chandler and Monica watch a video that completely ruins their Valentine’s day. This episode teaches us to deal with heartbreak, to communicate with our significant others, and to abstain from watching any kind of birthing video ever. It is sure to make your day full of laughter.

That ‘70s Show – Season 5 Episode 14: Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You

This episode has everything anyone looks for in a Valentine’s day special: love, people being driven crazy, humor, and Betty White. In this episode, Hyde is concerned that Jackie still has feelings for Kelso and Eric’s grandmother keeps throwing shady remarks at Kitty and Donna. It is full of family drama, newfound love, and many great laughs. This episode is perfect for any kind of Valentine’s day.

30 Rock – Season 4 Episode 13: Anna Howard Shaw Day

This episode is perfect for Valentine’s day cynics everywhere. Liz schedules a root canal to prove her dislike for this holiday and ironically, has trouble finding someone to drive her home from her surgery. Also, Jack goes on a date with a reporter that immediately catches his eye and Jenna is distraught when she realizes her stalker has given up on her. This episode is great for anyone who either does not like this lovey-dovey holiday or just needs a good laugh.

Whether you are planning on celebrating Galentine’s day, Desperation day, or the classic Valentine’s day, you will have a great night if you watch any of these episodes. They are all great and are sure to make your day even more so, and let’s face it, Netflix is a pretty good Valentine’s day date. I highly recommend these episodes all year round, but if you chose to watch them on Valentine’s day, I hope they make your day full of love and I hope you all have a Happy Anna Howard Shaw Day!
