If you’re like me, the idea came to you in September, and you just knew you had found the perfect costume idea. The best part was, the idea was totally doable as long as you left enough time for a tiny bit of planning. Such a small amount of planning it could be considered negligible. Yes, if you’re like me, you probably had grand plans for a Halloween costume, that have now fallen apart as the 31st gets close. If you have now been stranded without a costume, here are 13 cheap, last minute ideas that can save you from the shame of showing up to a party without a costume.

1) “Boo” from Monster’s Inc.

This is literally the easiest costume, especially if you have short hair. Just go to your nearest craft store and find an oversize pink t-shirt, throw on some leggings, put your hair into pigtails and you are good to go!

2) A Ghost

This costume is an instantly recognizable classic. The best part is you can add a little extra pizazz by using a colored or patterned sheet!

3) Literally anything that can be made into a Onesie

This option will force you to spend a little more, however, you will then have a cozy onesie to wear for the coming cold as well as a readymade costume that requires no alternations or additions.

4) A Tourist

Head to the nearest thrift shop and find a huge Hawaiian shirt to wear, a pair of cheap sunglasses, and a sunhat. For bonus points you can replace your everyday backpack in favor of a small suitcase. If it’s cold outside, this costume can also be adapted for a tourist visiting a ski resort. The possibilities are endless!

5) The Swine Flu

For this costume, all you need is a pig snout (conveniently found at your local Halloween store), a bathrobe, and an (optional) thermometer to hold.

6) A Cat

Another classic costume. All you need for this costume are a set of ears and a little paint for your nose (cat-eye liner is a nice touch as well).

7) Where’s Waldo/Wanda

This costume requires a striped t-shirt, a pair of jeans, glasses, and hat! See if anyone can ‘spot’ who you are!

8) Rosie the Riveter

If you feel like displaying some good old-fashioned propaganda, Rosie the Riveter is the ticket! The only thing you need for this costume is a red handkerchief, a blue button down, and some red lipstick.

9) A Scarecrow

All you need for this costume is a flannel shirt, a straw hat, and some strategically applied eyeliner.

10) A Sim

This one takes a little bit of crafting; make a paper or cardboard diamond and attach to a headband. Voila, whatever else you decide to wear, you have become a Sims character.

11) A Witch

Yet another classic. Define witch how you will, just make sure to have a hat!

12) “When Somebody Doesn’t Get Your Costume…”

Enough said.

13) A Devil

All you need are some devil horns and a red outfit of your choosing!

If procrastination (or midterms) have foiled your plans of the perfect costume, you are in luck. A budget-friendly costume is likely hiding in your closet or just down the street at the craft store!
