12 Concerts Coming to SLC That Will Make Your Summer Unforgettable

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Spring semester is finally coming to a close, and most college students are dreaming of the things they are going to do with their summer. Some will go to far off lands, some will sit at home and rewatch all of Game of Thrones, and some will continue with school because they are stronger than the rest of us. Personally, my favorite summer pastime is going to concerts. Experiencing live music is an incredibly pure and nearly euphoric pastime, so why not plan to go to a concert during your summer vacation? Here are some really exciting concerts coming to the SLC area this summer:

THE 1975: Apr. 29 @ 8pm. UCCU, Orem –

The 1975 are one of the most popular bands in the world right now. They are an Indie Rock band similar to CHVRCHES and The Neighbourhood, and are most-commonly known for their song “Somebody Else.” I would highly recommend seeing them in concert, as they are very energetic and an absolute blast.

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE: May 11 @ 7:30pm. Kilby Court, SLC –

Death Cab is not a very commonly known band. They are an Alternative Rock group similar to The Postal Service and The Shins. Death Cab for Cutie is most commonly known for their song “I Will Follow You Into the Dark.” Seeing this group in concert will be nothing short of a great night. They truly love what they do, and they definitely demonstrate this on stage.

PASSION PIT: MAY 11 @ 8:30PM. The Complex, SLC –

Passion Pit, though not as famous as some of the other up-and-coming concerts, are nonetheless talented. They are an Alternative Rock group similar to Matt and Kim and Vampire Weekend. Passion Pit is most widely known for their song “Take a Walk.” This group is very boisterous and wild on stage, so expected to feel strangely uplifted after one of their performances.

Billie Eilish is a very young and very talented pop artist with a dark twist, similar to Troye Sivan and Lorde. Billie Eilish is most commonly known for her song “Bury a Friend.” Watching her perform is an incredible experience, because she is truly dedicated to her art and wants every song to be an experience unique to each individual in attendance.

Grouplove is an up and coming artist. They are an Indie Pop group similar to Young the Giant and Ra Ra Riot. They are known to jump into the crowd and succeed in making their concerts as enjoyable as possible.

For those of you who have been living under a rock, and haven’t heard any of her newly-released tracks, Grande is a pop artist similar to Camila Cabello and Alessia Cara. Ariana Grande is most famous for her recent song “thank u, next.” Ariana is a true performer, and seeing her is a huge production. When you attend one of her shows, not a single minute (or dollar spent to see her) will go to waste.

Shawn Mendes is a very well known artist. He is a Pop artist similar to ZAYN and DNCE. Shawn Mendes is most commonly known for his song “Treat You Better.” He tries to connect with his audience on a personal level, which makes him an artist that stands out from the rest.

The Head and the Heart is a fairly popular indie group, similar to The Lumineers and The Avett Brothers, and are most commonly known for their song “Rivers and Roads.” This group is incredibly talented and is a very close-knit family. Seeing them live makes the audience feel like a part of that family–leading to a truly unforgetable experience.

Mumford and Sons is a popular and spectacular group. They are a Folk Rock group similar to Of Monsters and Men and Noah and the Whale. Portugal. The Man is an increasingly popular band. They are an Alternative Rock group similar to Cold War Kids and Local Natives. Portugal. The Man is most commonly known for their song “Feel It Still.” This group is very exciting to see live. They enjoy surprising their audience with all sorts of tricks and are insanely fun to see live.

Going to a concert is, arguably, one of the best experiences there is. Something about seeing an artist you look up to perform the craft that they are truly passionate about is moving beyond words. There are thousands of concerts happening this summer (including ones that I couldn’t bring myself to highlight in this article like Backstreet boys), and I strongly encourage you to attend one or a few.
